Xyrem (sodium oxybate) is a prescription medication manufactured by Jazz Pharmaceuticals, approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of cataplexy associated with narcolepsy and Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS) associated with narcolepsy. Xyrem (Alcover) is also used therapeutically in Italy for treatment of alcohol withdrawal and dependence. Sodium oxybate is the sodium salt of γ-hydroxybutyric acid.
